The heading of a vehicle (typically ships and aircraft) with reference to its actual direction of travel. This is typically represented as rotation about the vertical/Z-axis.
For example, the heading of an aircraft can be different to its actual path due to crosswinds etc. that skew the heading of the vehicle with regard the direction of travel.
Advanced Navigation’s glossary covers the most common terms and definitions used in inertial navigation systems, acoustic positioning and robotics.
