What is the definition of DVL?

Stands for Doppler Velocity Log. A DVL uses echo sounding to determine velocity of an underwater vehicle, distance from seabed and other objects, and other environmental characteristics, such as current speed and direction. DVL is often used as an aid in navigating submarines, AUV, and ROV.
